OUR STORY
How we started
In May 2012, I decided to make some Cake Pops for a friend's birthday. I had made them before but never thought much of it. When I arrived at the party, everyone ooooed and aaahed asking if I had bought them at *local well known bakery" - quite the compliment. A few people suggested that I start making them for order. I laughed it off but then started thinking about it more and more.
I've always been a creative person but have never found a way that I can truly express that side of myself.
Upon telling my boyfriend that I was seriously considering starting my own business and pursuing this new path, he jokingly suggested that I call it "Popkins" as my surname is Hopkins. I fell in love with the name immediately, so apt and personal. I then told a close friend my plan and she created a logo and some business cards for me. Then came the Facebook page, I put some photos up and created an email address. The response and support was astounding!
In just under a year I have gone from making pops for my colleagues and friends to making custom orders for strangers all over Cape Town and running my business full time. I never imagined that little balls of cake, icing and chocolate could become my career and bring me so much happiness. This is what I should be doing and I love it! Bye bye 9-5 :)
What is a Cake Pop?
A Cake Pop is cake that has been crumbed, mixed with icing, moulded into a shape (usually round), stuck on a stick and dipped in chocolate. It is then decorated to become the most beautiful little artwork on a stick. The contrasting hard outside and soft inside make this treat truly delectable. The perfect party favour, decor or gift. And yummy as can be :)
All cake pops can be customized to the extreme. Colours and designs can be changed to suit any theme, occasion or personality.
POPKINS DOES NOT USE "CAKE POP" BAKING TRAYS. ALL POPKINS POPS ARE MADE USING THE ABOVE METHOD AND THE BEST INGREDIENTS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST QUALITY POSSIBLE
